Description: Up to 40 cm high meadow-grass with very small, usually reddish-violett seed-heads; looks very delicate and fragile; with short underground runners; perennial; flowering season: VI - VIII; good but not very plentifl fodder; poorness indicator;
 
Occurence: Widespread and stand-forming in three subspecies, mainly on meagre meadows and pastures; especially in the moutains, along path margins and in the Calluna heath;
 
Related species: The genus agrostis encompasses approx. 10 further species. The most frequent of these are: Agrostis stolonifera L., creeping or spreading bent; frequent on fields and grassy slopes (VI - VIII); Agrostis gigantea Roth (= A. alba aut. p. p.), black bent, redtop widespread on meadows and in flood-plain forests (VI - VIII);
