How can allergies be treated?

There are 3 methods how to treat allergic diseases:

treatment with drugs,
injections,
avoidance of allergens.

Treatment with drugs:
Depending on location, type and severity of the discomforts, the corresponding medication will be administerd as accute immediate measure. The drugs, however, ease or suppress the discomforts only for the duration of their intake.

Injection (Hyposensitization, specific immunotherapy):
It is the aim of the injections to build up an immunologic tolerance to the allergens in order to achieve a lasting prevention of symptoms. This is the only treatment that influences the immune system and therefore aims directly at the cause of the disease. It has the effect that the symptoms are degenerated or reduced.

The treatment is especially tailored to the allergens which trigger off the disease and lasts approximately 3 years.

The so-called "short-term treatment" with allergoids has been used increasingly for approximately the last 10 years. It is more efficient and causes less side effects. This treatment is suitable for patients with pollen allergy and reduces the number of injections from approximately 20 to 7 injections per year.
