EAACI 2017 in Helsinki
Europe’s largest allergy conference with the motto “On the Road to Prevention and Healthy Living”
Helsinki / Reinbek - This year, the annual congress of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) took place in Helsinki from June 17th - 21st, 2017 with the motto “On the Road to Prevention and Healthy Living”. With a record-breaking attendance of over 8,000 participants from all over the world, it is the premier allergological conference.
Because ever more people are suffering from allergies, the European Academy has set a clear goal of providing improved quality of life for those affected. Here, the program showed off new initiatives and perspectives in allergology.
As one of the main sponsors, Allergopharma was represented by a large exhibitor’s stand which invited participants to engage with us in conversation.
The Allergopharma Symposium
The Allergopharma Company Sponsored Symposium, entitled “FASIT (Future of the Allergists and Specific Immunotherapy) meets EAACI - Novel Patient Profiling, Promising Treatments and Regulatory Challenges”, took place on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017.
The highlights from the FASIT workshop in February 2017 were presented. As per tradition, every two years Allergopharma offers a forum to experts in the field of specific immunotherapy (SIT) in which the most exciting issues in science, quality, regulatory requirements, patient care and the SIT market can be discussed. FASIT focuses on the future of SIT and allergology globally. 30 allergy experts from 11 European countries as well as Canada were invited to this year’s workshop.
The participants focused on promising new initiatives in SIT, such as biomarkers, adjuvants, vaccination models, “preventative” SIT for early prevention of developing allergies, as well as “precision medicine” with asthma phenotyping and endotyping. The discussion engaged with the question of why new molecules, such as recombinants or peptides appear successful in phase II studies, only to fail in phase III studies. Further topics included the harmonization of guidelines and legal regulations.
